LGBTQ Magazine Found Hanging By A Noose In Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. authorities are investigating a potential hate crime after discovering a local LGBTQ magazine hanging by a noose in the street.

As per The Washington Post, officers responded to a call in late April about a copy of Tagg magazine that was hanging by a noose on a light post in the District’s Adams Morgan neighborhood at the intersection of Columbia Road and 18th Street in Northwest. PoPville, a D.C. community blog, was first to report on the incident, and a representative for the magazine admitted that the intention behind the incident was clear. "A noose symbolizes years of hate and the death of thousands of Black people in this country," Editor-in-Chief Eboné F. Bell wrote in a statement. "As a Black lesbian, this incident is more than disturbing. I believe there is a reason Tagg was a target, and I believe there is a reason the ’Enterprising Women’ issue with people of color on the cover was a target."

In a follow-up message to The Post, Bell said, "It's clearly hate. We just don’t know if it’s racism, homophobia, or misogyny." If you have an information on the incident, Tagg Magazine has encouraged folks to say something to D.C. police at 202-506-0714 or via e-mail at Nicole.brown@dc.gov.
