City government in Durham, North Carolina could be going to the dogs if a write-in candidate can get enough votes. Obie, a 9 year-old pit bull mix, is working with no budget but is using social media to promote his campaign for mayor. Obie's owner Sean Haugh said that as a life-long Durham resident, Obie understands the woes of the city. Haugh says his dog was chained and abused in his early years, but is now genuine and kind, eager to lead, but a little slow in decision-making. Haugh said the city has since instituted several measures to help protect against animal abuse.
Campaign contributions can be made to Carolina Adopt-a-bulls or to the Animal Protection Society of Durham.
